Have you ever tried
Burmese Food? I never even heard of it until I moved to
New York City. But one day, walking down the upper eastside on 2nd avenue, and my stomach was calling me to feed it, I came across
Cafe Mingala. The atmoshphere --not to mention the cute pink tables-- and aroma of food drew me into
the restaurant. The staff was very sweet, and they answered all my curious questions about
Burmese food. My geography is absolutely terrible, I asked them where
Burmese was, lol, well it's
Burma, and I still don't know where it's located, but they told me that
Burmese food was influenced by
Chinese, Thai, and
Indian food. So, yes, all of the food is a bit spicy :). just how I like it.
I didn't understand not one item on the
menu, so I basically let the waiter pick the food for me. He chose the
Seafood Lemon Grass Soup for me to start off with. I can't describe to you how tastey this soup was, I was literally scraping the bowl. He then told me and my date about the
Pineapple Chicken and
Mingala Noodles with Shan Style Red Sauce. Completely trusting the waiter at this time, I allowed him to put the order through and the food was fantastic. I've been there three times since, and the staff is equally as kind as they were the first day I went. I have absolutely no complaints!
The best thing about it is, the bill was less than
$30.00 for two people! And we walk out full each time. Be sure to arriven hungry because the plates are HUGE. You can share one entree between two people.
