ATF:   Why do you think there is such a strong unity between the rappers in Miami? DJLaz:   Because we have been doubted for such a long time that now that Miami is doing big things and we have Pit Bull, Rick Ross, Trick Daddy, DJ Khaled...there's a lot more unity...we have Flo Rida it's crazy, people are starting to finally pay attention. It's like oh' damn...Miami is not just palm trees and hot girls. Even though...thats what I like to take credit for. I'll take credit for the hot girls (laughter) ATF: What does Miami have to offer hip hop that no other city can offer? DJLaz:   Bottom line, when it comes to music we have a little bit of everything here...we have the hardcore...we have the party records, records in general that make people want to have a good time. You know, that's really the focus on my album.  I like to show people what Miami is all about. The records I have out now, is called "She Can Get It" Black Eyed produced it. Every girl loves it and every guy in town can relate.  A guy see's a girl and he says...she can get it you know... (more laughter) And I got the Move, Shake, Drop record that makes people wanna have a good time. ATF: Sounds like a fun filled record, album. DJ LAZ: Definitelty, I call it Party record of the year. 3.) Who did you work with on the album? ATF:  Who are some of your musical influences? DJLaz:  Basically years ago when I did my first album,  I wanted to create a new sound, I wanted to bring spanish and english together.  So basically I did that and I made a record called "Mami El Negro" which was a merengue record initally that I made a bootie track, straight up Miami based bootie track and mixed them together..I did it messin' around on the radio one day and people called up and said, yo...what is that record? and I was like, that wasn't a record I just put two beats together. I started doing the same things in the clubs  and I got a reaction and everybody went crazy. And I was like..I gotta make this a record.  We made it a record and before you knew it I'm doing shows in San Francisco, San Deigo,  Dallas, Houston...the record took off.  That was my first introduction to the recording side of it all. ATF: Okay, so you kinda stumbled upon it? DJLaz: Yeah..I wanted to create somethig different, I wanted to create a different sound so pretty much I was probably one of the first people to mix english and spanish music together. ATF:  What's your descent? DJLaz:  Cuban ATF: Can you tell those of us who don't know, how you got your name "Pimp w/a Limp"? DJLaz:  Pretty Simple, I turn everything into a positive. I have thirteen surgeries and I walk with a limp and instead of letting it hold me back I decided to use it to my benefit.  I decided to call myself the "Pimp w/the Limp." I have always had a lot of lovely ladies around me and I got a bad leg so, why not go with it. ATF: Do you visit New York often? If so, what do you like to do when you're here? Do you have any favorite places to go? DJLaz:  I dont go to NY often, but when I go to NY I go to Manhattan. I think I have probably been to Queens once.  What I want to conquer is one big record in NY.  That's one of things ...when you land at LaGuardia, you land, turn on the radio you listen to HOT 97 and it's one of the things as an artist that make you be like damn, ok...that's my record playing. I have accomplished something. ATF:  Can you explain how you came up to be one of the most sought after DJs in the Miami area? How did you get to that level?level?  DJLaz:  Basically being in the market, I love what I do ...I got one of the reputations what everywhere I went, it was like LAZ would throw something (a pary) and everybody had to be there because Laz throws good parties.  And then, everybody wanted me at their spot. ATF:  Anything else you want to tell our readers? DJLaz:  Well, I'll tell you that you won't be disappointed if you pick up the album, there is something for everyone and that I'm real proud of it. It's one of those albums that you can leave in and be like ok, I like it. Leave your comments, ATF wants to hear your thoughts....
