The pop diva, who originally hails from Houston, Texas, was officially made an honorary "Brooklyn-ite" last week by the borough's president while she was there for the official opening for her new cosmetology center at The Phoenix House. Beyonce first spent time at the Phoenix House when preparing for the role of Etta James in the 2008 film, "Cadillac Records.'' and her new seven-month training program will prepare women coming out of drug and alcohol rehab for the state cosmetology licensure exam. Bey said that her decision to fund a beauty school was inspired by growing up in her mom's salon:

I saw that a salon was a place for women to socialize, share stories, cry, laugh and get advice. Most importantly, I saw the joy it brought my mother, knowing she was a part of their transformation.
