Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are Heading Down Under, Reports Say

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are planning a tour in the southern hemisphere this October, the palace has announced. The Prince and his new bride will be touring Australia, Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand. The two will be making the rounds when they arrive for the 2018 Invictus Games.

The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, are a Paralympic-style games for wounded veterans and members of the military. Being a veteran himself, the project has always been near and dear to Harry's heart. Harry started the games in 2014 to inspire soldiers to move forward and work toward recovery. The games have been a worldwide hit since then. The competitors come from around the world, with 17 countries participating in the events.

The newly minted Duke and Duchess are slated for the trip to the Invictus Games in Sydney, which are set for October 20 - 27. There will be more than 500 competitors in 10 different sporting events which will be taking place in venues across the city. It’s a very exciting time for Australia, and as it will be springtime at that time of year in the southern hemisphere, it should be a beautiful trip.

Meghan and Harry made their first appearance in public together at the Toronto, Canada games only one year ago. The couple sat together watching wheelchair tennis, and it was a bit of a scandal for a royal to be seen in public with date. However, that is when the world realized just how much Harry and Meghan were falling for each other.

The couple announced their engagement shortly after that sighting. The two were married in May in a star-studded wedding in England, though the wedding was very small by royal standards. There were only 600 guests at the ceremony. Queen Elizabeth II later held a luncheon reception for all 600 attendees, but only 200 people were invited to the very exclusive after party with the family.

Harry and Meghan did manage to slip in a honeymoon after tying the knot, but they made a few appearances as husband and wife since the wedding. They appeared at Prince Charles' 70th birthday party celebration just a couple of days after the wedding, and they appeared at the annual Trooping the Color ceremony in London this week to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

The latest announcement only shows that Harry and Meghan’s schedules are filling up rather quickly. The high-profile couple stir excitement wherever they go. Australia is very excited to have them visiting.

"As the founder of the Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex has become a champion for war veterans around the world, including in Australia," said Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia after the announcement was made. "His attendance, alongside the Duchess of Sussex, will be a wonderful highlight for the more than 500 competitors and thousands of spectators."

"Lucy and I look forward to hosting their visit and watching the remarkable feats of Invictus athletes from around the world," Turnball concluded.

While on his honeymoon, Harry was even able to tear his eyes away from his beautiful new bride to announce the games have been confirmed for 2020. “I am delighted to announce that The Hague is taking up the challenge of hosting the fifth Invictus Games in 2020," Harry said in a statement.
