The Queen and Meghan Markle Are Taking a Road Trip Together

Her Majesty the Queen will soon be taking a trip with her new granddaughter-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex. Queen Elizabeth II and Meghan will apparently be traveling solo for a day trip, and Meghan is getting to do something that her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, has never gotten to do. In fact, rumor has it that even her husband, Prince Harry, and his brother, Prince William, have never gotten to do this, either.

The Queen seems to have really taken to Meghan Markle. In spite of all the ways Meghan is a very untraditional bride for a royal, the two hit it off like peas in a pod. The Queen even let Meghan's dog, Guy, ride in a car with her. You know you're in with the royal family when Queen Elizabeth offers to give your pooch a ride to the palace with her.

Now, just a couple of weeks after Meghan wed Prince Harry, she and her grandmother-in-law are taking a road trip together. On June 14, Meghan's first official royal outing with the monarch is scheduled. She'll be going with the Queen to Chester, about 165 miles northwest of London. The two will be unveiling a new bridge, and opening the new Storyhouse Theater. They'll then have lunch at Chester's Town Hall.

The 92-year-old Queen will be bringing Meghan on the official Royal Train. This is a huge deal, considering that this train is so exclusive that even Prince William and Prince Harry have reportedly never been on it. Neither has Kate Middleton, William's wife, so hopefully there will be no hard feelings.

The special train was put into operation back in 1977 for the royal family. It has nine carriages, including a bedroom reportedly decorated in shades of pastel, and an adjoining bathroom. It's 75-feet long and rides with 'secondary air suspension' to keep the bumping and jostling normally expected on a train ride to a minimum.

After 7:30 A.M., the train reportedly slows down even more to ensure the royals won't be bumped around as they are trying to get ready for the day.

The train only takes trips a handful of times through the years these days. In the last 12 months, it's only been used 14 times, Vanity Fair reports.

It's a good thing it's not used that often-- the train costs a lot to run. It ran the taxpayers more than $1 million for the train to operate in 2016 and 2017.

The only people the train is available for are the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla. Meghan will be the fifth member of the royal family to ever have the privilege to ride it. She and the Queen will be traveling overnight on the train so they're fresh in the morning for their appearances.

It's pretty amazing the way the Queen has welcomed Meghan into the royal family with such open arms. But hey, how could the queen not love the American actress? Meghan gave the Queen a singing stuffed hamster on the first Christmas she spent with the royal family.

The Queen apparently really appreciated Meghan's sense of humor. There's that, and there's the way Meghan makes Prince Harry just light up whenever she's around—what’s not to like?
