Hillary Clinton Opens Up About Affair, Reveals Real Reason She Didn't Leave Bill

Hillary Clinton – one-time First Lady, one-time Secretary of State and one-time presidential candidate – has revealed that she will be discussing her sometimes-strained marriage to former president (and subject of numerous sex scandals) Bill Clinton. In her new book, entitled ‘What Happened’, Mrs. Clinton plans to revisit the 2016 presidential election and give some personal and public context to the controversial events leading up to Donald Trump’s inauguration. ‘What Happened’ is due for release on September 12 and will allegedly focus on Mrs. Clinton’s “shocking and devastating loss,” to President Donald Trump.

According to the official introduction by the book’s publisher, Simon & Schuster, ‘What Happened’ will reveal “what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history…[taking] you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules.”

Unsurprisingly, one of the most important developments in Mrs. Clinton’s personal life has been her difficult marriage with Mr. Clinton. The couple’s marriage – which was made official in October 1975 – nearly reached a breaking point in 1998 when Bill Clinton was threatened with impeachment after he lied under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, an intern working at the White House. This indiscretion became a launchpad for then-candidate Trump to launch attacks on Bill Clinton’s integrity.

CNN – who allegedly received an advance copy of ‘What Happened’ have already unpacked some of Mrs. Clinton’s introductory statements on this subject. “There were times that I was deeply unsure about whether our marriage could or should survive,” writes the former First Lady. “But on those days, I asked myself the questions that mattered to me: Do I still love him? And can I still be in this marriage without becoming unrecognizable to myself — twisted by anger, resentment, or remoteness? The answers were always yes,” declares Hillary.

In a 2016 CNN documentary piece, Mrs. Clinton hinted that she only got through this difficult period with the help of friends and family, telling interviewers: “It was really hard. It was painful. And I was so supported by my friends. My friends just rallied around…[they’d] try to make me laugh, they would recommend books to read, we’d go for long walks, we’d hang out, you know eat bad food.”

According to People, Hillary’s book will also refute ‘inaccurate’ reports about her marriage and emphasize the “many, many more happy days [with Bill] than sad or angry ones.” According to CNN, Mrs. Clinton will also strike back against the repeated media and political attacks on her husband’s character. “I heard it again on the 2016 campaign…” writes Hillary. “It’s just a marriage on paper now (He is reading this over my shoulder in our kitchen with our dogs underfoot and in a minute he will reorganize our bookshelves for the millionth time…but I don’t mind because he really loves to organize those bookshelves).”
