Man Asks Girlfriend To Marry Him - Then Things Take Tragic Turn

A marriage proposal is something a lot of men take very seriously. They know it's a moment that will be remembered for a lifetime, and they want to make it ideal. Picking the perfect locations is almost as important as picking the perfect ring. Sadly, for one couple, the man's chosen location turned out to be a fatal mistake.

The man from Japan planned a beautiful proposal for his girlfriend on the Irabu Bridge in Miyakojima. The relatively new bridge, finished in 2015, is the longest-spanning bridge in Japan, connecting five islands. Things went well, but after the woman agreed to marry him, the man accidentally fell to his death.

The unnamed man took his girlfriend out and went for a drive over the bridge so that they could 'enjoy the view'. At one scenic point, he pulled over and the couple got out of the car to look out over the water. He then got down on one knee and proposed.

The woman was so thrilled that she immediately told him the word he was hoping to hear: "Yes!"

The man got so excited that he started jumping around for joy - literally. That's not a very good idea when you're on a bridge.

The groom-to-be, who was bursting with joy, jumped on top of a railing in celebration. When he got up there, he lost his balance and plummeted 100 feet down into the sea below.

The girlfriend called emergency services and responders rushed to the scene. They began searching for his body, which they found seven hours later. By then, it was too late.

The man's sad demise marks the first fatality for the new bridge. The woman who he proposed to is devastated and traumatized by the turn of events.

The man is not the first person to have ever fallen to his death after getting excited over a marriage proposal. In 2014, a 29-year-old Bulgarian woman was proposed to by her boyfriend on a scenic cliff on the Spanish island of Ibiza.

Her boyfriend knelt down and popped the question, to which she answered yes. The woman got so excited afterwards she started jumping with excitement, and she sadly lost her footing and fell to her death.

In a strange case, one man didn't die proposing, but he faked his death. The man wanted his girlfriend to think about how devastated she would be if she lost him, so he pretended to be dead.

The man from Russia hired a director, stunt man, script writer, make-up artist and actors to play the part of paramedics to help him pull off his stunt. He pretended he died in a car accident. She was supposed to meet him at the location, but when she arrived she found his mangled, bloody body.

The woman burst into tears and believed her boyfriend was truly dead, only for him to pop up and shock her with the fact that he was still alive. He then got down on one knee and pulled out a ring.

The woman was shaken, but apparently has a good sense of humor. She accepted his proposal.
