Melania Is More Popular Than Donald In Political Polls

President Donald Trump's job approval rating has plummeted to an all-time low not just for himself, but for presidents in general over the last 70 years. One recent poll found him at about 39 percent, notes CNN. None of the other Trumps are faring very well in the polling either. Ivanka's popularity is polling at 41 percent, and her husband, Trump's White House Aid Jared Kushner, is viewed favorably by only 22 percent of Americans. No one likes nepotism, it seems.

So far, the highest-ranking Trump in the White House is First Lady Melania Trump. She hasn't disappointed Trump's fan base much, and hasn't completely offended his opponents, so she seems to be the darling of the family. Some speculate it's because she has, for the most part, remained in the shadows.

According to an Obama White House official, it's Melania's independence that has kept her likability from bottoming out the way it has for the rest of the family. "The East Wing definitely has some independence, but not this kind of independence," said the official to CNN. "It hasn't before been as though there's a completely different view of the world from one side than the other."

Think about it: Melania rarely speaks in public. At first, during the election, she avoided it. When Trump was first elected she got slammed for a couple of things she did say.

Melania gave a speech that her speechwriter apparently plagiarized from Michelle Obama. The FLOTUS received immediate backlash.

In another attempt to speak, she tried to defend herself against a reporter who said she was once a prostitute. Granted, the reporter was wrong for trying to slut shame the attractive FLOTUS when there was no evidence to support the claims, but Melania sued him because he could damage her 'brand'. This was the worst thing to say at the time, as President Donald Trump and his older kids were all being torn apart for suspicion that the family was violating the emoluments clause of the Constitution - that little clause that keeps everyone honest by preventing the First Family from profiting off the president's office.

Melania learned quickly not to put her foot in her mouth in public. Since then, the FLOTUS has largely stayed out of the spotlight. She's looked stunning in a variety of high fashioned designs, she's shown up to play the gracious hostess at the occasional event or meeting, paid a few visits for photo ops, and she's been a doting mother on the youngest member of the family, her son, Barron Trump.

"Mrs. Trump is independent and acts independently from her husband," confirms Melania's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, to CNN. She presents herself in public, elegantly and quietly. She pursues her platforms almost imperceptibly (in fact, if her people didn't tell us about those platforms, we might not have noticed).

Melania is like the perfect 50's sitcom mom: she remains largely quiet, dotes on the family, and is always perfectly styled. Perhaps that's why, despite her past as a nude model or her status as an immigrant, conservatives are willing to accept her.

Melania's approval rating may be the highest of the Trumps, but it's still not spectacular. She's holding steady at 48 percent. That wouldn't be noteworthy for most people, but for a Trump it's pretty impressive.
