Mom Spotted Money On The Windshield, But It's A Good Thing She Didn't Take The Bait

A Missouri mom was out shopping and after a long day she returned to her car to go home. She didn't notice at the time that a $100 bill had been placed on her windshield, and it's a good thing that she didn't.

It was there to distract her for a sinister reason. The mom is now trying to warn others.

Kyri Viehman says that while walking through the parking lot and getting in her car, she wasn't paying attention to her surroundings. That was a mistake, because she believes she was in danger.

It's a good thing, though, that she didn't notice something on the windshield, because if she had, it might have sealed her fate.

Viehman got into the car and drove away, only to notice a while later that something under her windshield wiper was flapping in the breeze. She pulled over and found a $100 bill.

"I pulled over to the side of the road to retrieve this miracle money that came into my life at the perfect time... I opened the bill, and it read something similar to 'Ha you thought this was real didn't you?'" she wrote on a social media post after the incident.

Upon doing a little internet research Viehman found out that some people believe the bill was a ploy. There are a lot of stories of abductors, muggers and rapists leaving money or even jewelry in little baggies on windshields of parked cars.

Thugs put it there in order to distract the person at the vehicle.

As soon as the person returning to their car starts paying attention to the item on the windshield, the thugs will jump out to steal the car, abduct the person, rob them or worse.

Some claim that it's just an urban legend, and that there are no serious reports of this ever happening. Other people on the internet who have found items on their car beg to differ; they believe they were in real danger.

Viehmam is now one of those people sounding the warning. She was with her young son at the time, and worries that he is the one who could have been in real danger.

"Everyone just be careful and be smart with your actions. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, and if you feel uncomfortable, ask for someone to walk you to your car."

"Stay safe out there. I never thought of something like this happening around here, much less to me," she said on social media.

Another Facebook user, Savannah Nguyen, claims that she believes sex traffickers had targeted her mother at a parking lot by leaving what looked like a 'free gift' from Kay Jewelers. The Wisconsin woman also escaped danger by not noticing the gift and driving away with it intact.

ABC News reports that Karen Straughn, Maryland Assistant Attorney General, has issued warnings about the scam. Even though there has not been a police report filed, Straughn says, "But because it’s something of a frightening nature, if this happens to someone, we hope they will take the proper precautions."

Other scams involve car thieves bumping a car from the back. When people exit the vehicle to see if there is any damage, a carjacker jumps in and steals the car.
