After Recent Investigation News, Trump Accuses Hillary Clinton Of Having "Dealings With Russia"

President Trump, reeling from a report that he is under investigation for alleged obstruction of justice, tweeted Thursday that authorities should examine Hillary Clinton’s links to Russia, according to The Hill.

“Why is that Hillary Clintons family and Dems dealings with Russia are not looked at, but my non-dealings are,” he asked. “Crooked H destroyed phones w/ hammer, 'bleached' emails, & had husband meet w/AG days before she was cleared & they talk about obstruction?” The president was referring to the FBI’s investigation of Clinton’s email practices as secretary of state.

It was not the first time Trump brought up the subject. On March 20, he tweeted: “What about all of the contact with the Clinton campaign and the Russians? Also, is it true that the DNC would not let the FBI in to look?” Shortly thereafter, the president asked on Twitter: “Why doesn’t Fake News talk about (former Clinton campaign chairman John) Podesta ties to Russia as covered by Fox News or money from Russia to Clinton - sale of Uranium?”

Trump also continues to accuse Loretta Lynch, the Obama administration’s attorney general, of helping Clinton avoid prosecution. He has frequently cited Bill Clinton’s brief conversation with Lynch at an airport in Phoenix last year. According to Trump, Lynch made “law-enforcement decisions for political purposes.”

Robert Mueller, the Justice Department’s recently appointed special counsel, is coordinating multiple federal probes of allegations that the Trump campaign conspired with Russia to meddle with the 2016 election. Several of the president’s associates, including former national security adviser Michael Flynn and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, reportedly are targets of the investigation. Other members of Trump’s team had contacts with representatives of the Russian government during and after the election, as well. Several U.S. intelligence agencies accused Russian leader Vladimir Putin of directing last summer’s cyber attacks on computers used by Podesta and the Democratic National Committee, in an effort to uncover damaging information about the Democratic presidential nominee.

In addition to Mueller, the FBI and congressional panels are investigating the Trump-Russia affair. Former FBI Director James Comey recently told the Senate Intelligence Committee that in February, just after Flynn was forced to resign because of his Russian connections, the president asked him to stop the FBI’s probe of the former national security adviser. Trump denies making the request, alleging that Comey lied under oath. If the ex-director’s account of the one-on-one conversation is accurate, the incident could be evidence in the obstruction-of-justice investigation. The president’s admission that he sacked Comey to thwart the Russian inquiry is also incriminating, according to some legal experts.

The Washington Examiner noted that earlier on Thursday, Trump tweeted: “They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story. Nice. … You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American presidential history, led by some very bad and conflicted people.”

The administration argues that the “big story” is Lynch’s supposed “unmasking and surveillance” of U.S. citizens who were mentioned in intelligence reports.
