Clinton: Trump Is ‘Afraid’ to Release His Taxes

The reason Donald Trump refuses to make his tax returns public is that the documents would show he has not been paying his fair share, according to Hillary Clinton.

“You’ve got someone running for president who’s afraid to release his tax returns, because it will expose the fact that he pays no federal income tax,” the leading contender for the Democratic nomination said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” USA Today pointed out that Trump, the apparent Republican presidential nominee, has promised to release his taxes when the Internal Revenue Service finishes an audit of his financial records.

Clinton also used her television appearance to slam her rival’s policy proposals. “I think in the course of this campaign, we are going to demonstrate he has no ideas,” she said. “There’s no evidence he has any ideas about making America great, as he advertises. He seems to be particularly focused on making himself appear great.”

The former secretary of state ridiculed Trump for pledging to increase spending on the military and infrastructure, while cutting taxes at the same time. “He goes around talking about ‘make America great.’ That means paying for our military. That means paying for our roads. … That means a lot of things,” she declared.

Meanwhile, USA Today reported, Trump continues to suggest Clinton is unfit for the country’s highest office. “She is not qualified to be president,” he said Sunday. “She suffers from bad judgment.”
