Kid Rock - Warren Warns About Last Time Voters Failed To Take A Campaign Seriously

Democrats should not dismiss Kid Rock’s threat to run for the U.S. Senate, according to Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

Roll Call reported that the singer from Michigan, whose actual name is Robert Ritchie, is considering a 2018 campaign against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow. On Wednesday, he told his Twitter followers that his “Kid Rock for Senate” is “not a hoax.”

According to the Boston Herald, Warren responded with emails featuring the headline “Senator Kid Rock (R-MI).” The progressive Democrat advised other party members to take the entertainer seriously, rather than assuming he is just trying to promote a concert tour and his newly opened restaurant. “I know a lot of people are thinking, ‘this is some sort of joke, right?’” Warren wrote. “But we all thought Donald Trump was joking when he rode down the escalator at Trump Tower and announced his campaign, too. And sure, maybe this is just a marketing gimmick for a new album or tour — but we all thought Donald Trump was just promoting his reality TV show, too.”

The senator provided a link to a fundraising page for herself and Stabenow. She said donations will be evenly split between the lawmakers, each of whom is facing re-election next year. “Rapper/singer/Trump supporter Kid Rock just hinted that he might run for the U.S. Senate against Debbie Stabenow in Michigan,” the page states. “Debbie fights for us, and we fight for Debbie. We can’t afford to lose her voice in the Senate – or give Mitch McConnell one more vote to rubber stamp Donald Trump’s reckless agenda. Please chip in now to support Debbie Stabenow’s 2018 re-election campaign.”

Warren has some experience dealing with a celebrity who covets her Senate seat. Curt Schilling, a retired baseball player who pitched for the Boston Red Sox and other teams, considered a race against Warren until deciding against it. He recently endorsed Republican candidate Shiva Ayyadurai.

The Washington Times reported that Stabenow commented on Ritchie’s announcement. “I know we both share a love of music,” she tweeted. “I concede he’s better at playing guitar and I’ll keep doing what I do best: fighting for Michigan.”

Republicans, struggling to maintain their slim majority in the Senate, are hoping for upset wins in Massachusetts and Michigan. GOP state Rep. Geoff Diehl of Massachusetts told the Herald that Warren is more concerned about a possible 2020 presidential bid than performing her legislative duties. “She uses any and every issue, whether it’s a celebrity Republican or it’s Hillary Clinton, to try to scare her support base into giving her more money so that she can reach that main goal I believe of running for president … not of focusing on the concerns of her constituents in Massachusetts,” Diehl said.

Ritchie pledged to be “a voice for tax paying, hardworking Americans.” The singer, who sided with Trump in the 2016 campaign, visited the president at the White House in April. He was joined by another rock star from Detroit, Ted Nugent, and Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee.
