Police in Pennsylvania tried to arrest a woman in York Haven on Monday for fleeing after she ran a stop sign.
However, instead of stopping, the woman accelerated and intentionally drove her SUV into the Susquehanna River
Afterwards, officers tried to communicate with her, but she ignored them and drank a beer as her 2011 Subaru Outback floated about 20 feet off shore.
A few minutes later a fire department boat managed to bring the woman back to shore. She was transported to a hospital.
The unfortunate incident began at around 4pm when officers saw the Subaru drive past a stop sign in East Manchester Township without slowing down.
After the vehicle fled the scene when they attempted to pull it over, the officers then the vehicle’s license plate number to locate the driver’s address. They were on their way when the Newberry Police Department radioed saying the Subaru had been seen at the Conewago Boat Launch Area.
When officers from the two police departments cornered the woman at the boat launch and tried to get her to talk to them, the distraught woman stepped on the gas and her vehicle hurtled into the water.
Firefighters say the woman was fading in and out of consciousness when they pulled her off her car in the river.
