Psychologist Reveals What Melania's Outfit Choices Say About Her Verse Michelle- It's Not Good

Fashion experts will tell you that you are what you wear. Your clothing choices can reveal how you feel about yourself, your personality and even send a message for you. When a First Lady steps out in public, what she's wearing is never an accident or an afterthought. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette examined the political messages that the fashions of the former and current first ladies are screaming.

Michelle Obama, after eight years looking stunning, has become something of a fashion icon. Mrs. Obama tends to mix up her looks a lot, and chooses her looks from a broad base of options. Sometimes she'll pick an off-the-rack Target dress, while other times she'll go with a hot new up-and-coming designer, putting them on the fashion map.

Melania Trump is, of course, no slouch in the area of fashion herself. The former fashion model seemingly has an endless stream of high-fashion clothing put out by elite designers, and it doesn't look like she ever wears the same outfit twice.

When you compare the two side-by-side, they both always look stunning, but seem to have two different messages. For example, compare what they both wore to world summits. Mrs. Trump's $51,500 floral Dolce & Gabbana jacket seemed to scream, "I am part of the elite, and I can afford this," according to fashion psychologist Dawnn Karen. "As a fashion psychologist, I’m looking at her and saying, 'What are you hiding? What are you trying to cover up or suppress'?"

It's quite possible that the FLOTUS was harboring some resentment towards all the designers who joined a campaign vowing not to dress her because they are against Donald Trump.

Michelle, on the other hand, does seem to be showing off when she wears designer duds. “I’m wearing this, and I’m supporting this designer,” seems to be what her outfits are saying, says Karen. " She's not really relying on the messages the brand denotes. She’s relying on her inner confidence and style."

On Independence Day, Michelle Obama once wore a white and blue flair print by Band of Outsiders. She had recycled the dress from another occasion, and many believed it was the perfect casual frock for a Fourth of July picnic with military families. "It’s such an easy, breezy look for what was most likely a muggy day in Washington, D.C. It’s also classic and polished without being too fussy," said Aire Plichta Reese, a personal stylist and fashion marketing expert said to the Gazette.

Melania looked lovely in her $1,500 Esteban Cortazar navy blue dress, but it looked a little formal for a picnic. "I know for a fact that she could have found a similar style for a 10th of the price and in a more approachable fabric and less formal overall look," said Reese.

Overall, Mrs. Trump is striving to be noticed, to show herself a woman of wealth and power. Mrs. Obama, on the other hand, strives to be approachable and down-to-earth, showing herself as a woman to whom other women can relate.
