New Type of Acupuncture Promises to Replicate Facelift Effects

Now, there may be a new alternative to Botox and facelift surgery for smoothing lines and wrinkles and lifting sagging facial skin. A new face-lifting acupuncture treatment claims to take five years off your appearance, and may be the next big thing in the world of anti-aging procedures.

AcuFacial is a process involving strategically placed needles on the patient's face and body. It costs between $150 to $200 per treatment, with ten sessions needed to experience the full effect. Each session takes an hour or two. Unlike cosmetic surgery, it requires no incisions, though it does use plenty of needles. Patients say the procedure is not particularly painful, though the pin pricks can be uncomfortable.

How It Works

Shellie Goldstein, a New York acupuncturist who provides the procedure, explains “We have muscles in our body, we have muscles in our face, there is no other procedure that actually exercises the muscles and improves circulation in your skin.” While the procedure has been criticized for the lack of scientific evidence backing its effectiveness, already hundreds of people have undergone the treatment. Many say that they have achieved visible tightening in their facial skin after being treated with AcuFacial.

What do you think? Can acupuncture really give you a facelift?
