New Film 'Salt and Silicone' Examines Breast Augmentation

Salt and Silicone

Breast implants may be a big part of Hollywood, but the topic is rarely discussed in a serious way in movies. Salt and Silicone, a short film with a title referring to the two major types of breast implants, aims to take a serious look at the emotions behind breast augmentation. It has been showcased at several film festivals, including the 2010 International Film Festival and the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, and is being considered for the Oscars. The short was recently reviewed by The Examiner. To see clips of the film, visit http://www.wfilms.biz.

The film, written and directed by Warren Pereira, examines one man's mixed feelings about implants after his girlfriend announces that she wants them. First, he wants to be supportive. Another part of him is completely against it. Finally, he looks forward to his girlfriend's surgery because of the sexual connotations of bigger breasts.

His emotions through each of the three separate episodes mirror those often experienced by women undergoing breast augmentation, as well as their close friends and family members. The result is an entertaining and highly emotional short film that asks viewers the question: “Our culture is obsessed with breast implants, but is all the turmoil worthwhile?”
