Sperm bank says no more redheads, unless....
The world largest sperm bank, Cryos International, says they are full up with redheads. They have more than enough to meet demand so no more donations.
Ole Schou, agency director, said that their stock was “about to explode.”
“We have nothing against red-haired donors,” said Schou, they just have enough for present demand. The current stock is topping out at 140,000 doses of sperm of the red-haired variety. Schou explained that most of their clients do not choose red hair. The most common scenario is if the infertile father is a redhead then the choice seems logical. It is much less common for a single woman looking to conceive for the first time to select the unusual hair color.
Schou explained that the big demand for red hair is in Ireland where it is selling “like hotcakes”. He also stopped taking donations from Scandinavian donors unless the donor has brown eyes. They still have some room for that variety.
“What we need is brown-eyed Scandinavians/Caucasians and Mediterranean donors and other ethnicities and races,” he explained. They provide sperm for clients around the world and their bank needs to reflect the global demographic. They also called out for more Black, Asian, Hispanic and mixed race donors. They have a big demand for brown hair and brown eyes since most of their clients come from Spain, Italy and Greece.
To underscore the importance of brown eyes, Schou even said they would make an exception for the redhead – if he had brown eyes, they would be happy to accept the donation.
They pay $500 per donation.
