Foods that Reduce Inflammation in the Body

flower

For those who choose not to take standard anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and naproxen, or prescription drugs like Celebrex, or who need some extra relief of symptoms, there are a number of foods that reduce inflammation in the body.

Oily Fish

Wild-caught fish such as Alaskan Salmon, mackerel, anchovies, and sardines contain high levels of EPA and DHA, two types of omega-3s that fight inflammation.

Green Tea

Compounds in green tea called flavonoids are powerful anti-inflammatory agents with scientifically proven results.

Papaya

Papaya contains an enzyme called papain, which along with vitamins C and E can reduce inflammation.

Pineapple

Bromelain, a compound found in pineapple, has been shown in some studies to be as effective as NSAIDS in reducing swelling and inflammation from sports injuries and trauma.

Berries

All types of berries, but wild blueberries in particular, contain powerful phytonutrients that prevent inflammation and can reduce the risk of cancer and some types of dementia.

Olive Oil

Olive oil, especially extra virgin (from the first pressing), contains polyphenols, which help to prevent inflammation in the heart and blood vessels.

Spinach

Spinach contains too many important flavonoids and carotenoids to list here, but these powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories pack a real punch.

While every body is different and may have different reactions, with the addition of a few of these very nutritious – and delicious – foods into your diet, you may see a real improvement in the overall quality of your health, and a reduction in the amount of inflammation in your body.
