Finding Yourself After Divorce
Divorce is difficult enough, but often times starting over and being single again can be scary as well. After the divorce is over and you start your new life the important thing to do is create a healthy you. A recent article talked with psychologists and authors on what you can do to move forward and leave the divorce behind:
"One of the first things that needs to happen is that the person has to be healthy themselves," said Pat Couvillion, a clinical psychologist with Professional Psychological Services of Indiana.
Lay aside your cynicism, anger, guilt, self-doubt or whatever other baggage you carry from your marriage, experts agree. Concentrate on who you are, not who you were within the marriage.
Think about "what part of you got lost in the divorce that you want to rekindle," said Diana Mercer, co-author of "Making Divorce Work: Eight Essential Keys to Resolving Conflict and Rebuilding Your Life," published in 2010.
Now is the time to explore the things that you have wanted to get to that you were not able to do in the marriage and try activities, like volunteering.
