Children’s menu now featuring margaritas

Apparently, last week at your neighborhood Applebee’s, a server mistakenly served a 15-month-old boy a margarita. They had ordered an apple juice. Just how does a server not notice he/she put a margarita in front of a baby? And what about every other person passing by the table?
The company that owns Applebee’s said it would immediately start retraining their servers who can’t tell the difference between a margarita (pale green on the rocks with a lime) and apple juice (gold straight up). They will also change the way they serve beverages to children by using single-serve containers, ie juice box. Alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages will also be separated at the service bars.
The party started last Friday when Taylor Dill-Reese ordered a juice for her son. He must have slammed it because she didn’t see a thing. She told the local media that she only noticed something was wrong when he put his head down, dozed a bit, then woke up woozy and in really good spirits. Sounds like one or two of my recent dates.
On cue, Applebee’s and chain owner DineEquity Inc. released a statement saying they were relieved (you can bet on it) that the boy was “not seriously injured as a result of accidentally receiving the wrong beverage” and apologized to the family.
Of all the things a mom has to worry about in a restaurant (knives, spitting, chairs toppling over, children playing under the table, spontaneous food fight, spills, etc) your son getting a shot of tequila just shouldn’t be one of them.
