Tucked among a row of houses on 23rd Avenue is this adorable little restaurant, Pizzeta 211. If you are looking for a yummy, cozy and fun spot for a date night, this is the best. When you arrive there may be a line, but they are prepared for that. They have chairs and tables outside for you to sit and wait and since its the Outer Richmond and a little foggy they have blankets. And don't worry, they will serve you wine while you wait.
Inside this cozy restaurant, they only have 4 tables and a 4 seater bar area, it smells so wonderful since the kitchen is part of the restaurant. If you sit at the bar area you can watch as the chef prepares your food. Also sitting on the bar is the desert choices so you can drool over them while you are eating.
To start off, the cheeseboard is definitely the way to go. Each day Pizzeta 211has a different selection of fresh local cheeses. We had an amazing goat cheese and a brie that was really creamy. All of the ingredients that are used are fresh and local and their menu changes daily. The pizzas are not your ordinary pizza, the toppings vary from Farm Eggs to Corn to Arugula, and the crust is thin and crispy. We chose the Farm Egg, Coppa, Corno di Toro Pepper and Roasted Corn Pizza because I was always curious about egg on a pizza. It turned out to be amazing and since we were sitting at the bar we could chat with the chef while he made our pizza. I learned that the fried eggs are cooked just a little in the pan and then slid onto the pizza and are finished cooking in the pizza oven. When the yolk breaks over the pizza and mixes with the cheese, pepper and corn it makes a really yummy mix to dip your crust into.
After staring at the desert selection all evening we had to try a piece of the upside down plum cake. It was the very last piece and it looked amazing. The taste was even better than expected. The cake was moist and the plums made it very flavorful.
And to top off the meal was the wonderful wine they served, it was a really yummy french table wine. They have a small selection of wines but each and every one is the perfect complement to the meal.
Just a note to remember, this place is cash only so hit up the ATM before you go. It is very well priced and you will enjoy every moment.
