How old you feel, may actually determine how long you’ll live and life may be determined by mind over matter.
Researchers say those who felt three years younger than their age were more likely to live longer lives than those who reported feeling one year older than their age.
Those who felt older than their age were more than 40 percent more likely to die than their younger feeling counterparts, Daily Mail reports.
Researchers originally thought older feeling were sicker, however that turned out to no be true.
“But when we had taken these illnesses into account in our statistical models, the relationship with perceived age remained quite strong,' said coauthor Andrew Steptoe of the epidemiology and public health department at University College London.
“We also measured mobility problems, lifestyle factors such as smoking, depression, and cognitive function. But none of these explained the relationship we saw.”
According to Daily Mail, researchers said those who feel they are younger in their age than they are might be targeted with messages that promote positive behaviors and attitudes toward health and aging.
